our discussion about SFVRC
activities and have some additional

There is a lot of important and
relevant information contained in
this newsletter. Please read the
items below.

Featured Speaker - Laura
Rubenfeld |
|
Is Islam, as a Political System
and a Culture, compatible with
America's Political System and
Culture?
Born
in the U.S., Laura Rubenfeld grew up
in Alberta, Canada, South Florida
and Southern California. As a
teenager, she traveled to the Soviet
Union where she saw Russia under
Communism. She went back to Russia
again during her college years to
study. She graduated from the
University of Southern California
with a degree in International
Relations and a minor in the Russian
language.

Laura has been fascinated with
different languages and cultures
since she was a child. At
University, her colleagues were both
liberals and conservatives from all
over the world, including places
like Mexico, Armenia, Turkey, Iran,
Russia, Lebanon, Belarus, Ukraine,
and Israel.
She was a far left leaning liberal
until 9-11, when she was forced to
rethink many of her beliefs. She
has been a student of Islam since
2003 and has studied the Islamic
trilogy of the Quran, Hadith and
Sira.
She will provide insight into why
Islam as a political system and as a
culture, is not compatible with
America's political system and
culture.

SFVRC Activities Discussion |
|
Our Ongoing Conversation
As you know, in March we had a
lively discussion about what our
priorities should be and in what
areas we should be directing our
efforts. You might recall that I
sent an email out listing the topics
that were offered and who suggested
them. Here is another copy of that
list:

I then summarized the list as
follows:
These can be broken down further
into some general categories:
Outreach and Community Involvement
College Republicans
Young Republicans
Republican Women Federated
Clubs
Other Republican Clubs
Decline-to-states, Other
conservative parties
Ethnic groups, especially
Latinos and African-Americans
Teen-age Republicans
Local charitable events
Neighborhood Councils
Boy Scouts
Voter Registration at
community events
Veteran organizations,
including the VA, Operation
Gratitude, etc.
Work with Educational Institutions
Set
up a committee to come up with a
strategy for:
LAUSD
Community Colleges
Public Relations with media
Establish relationships with
various media outlets:
Daily newspapers
Talk radio
Cable TV
Neighborhood weekly
newpapers
Find a friendly reporter
and keep him/her informed as
to what SFVRC is doing,
especially what we are doing
for the community, and what
issues we have taken
positions on.
Help promote the idea of
private investment accounts
in lieu of social security
for those under thirty
("Rise up America")
Utilize the new media to
organize and communicate.
Precinct Operations.
Set up a Precinct Chairman
for the club.
Organize area chairman
Set up precinct captains
under each area chairman
Have precinct captains
organize precinct leaders for
every precinct in the Valley.
Precinct operation to help
organize Neighborhood Watch
groups, work with local law
enforcement agencies,
and find other ways to help make
the neighborhoods safe. Let's
have our neighbors, Republicans,
Democrats and DTS's alike, know
that Republicans are in the
neighborhood and we are there to
help.
Candidate identification,
recruitment and training
Have everyone be alert to
potential candidates in their
daily life.
Find out if they have a core
belief in limited government
Are they passionate about
liberty?
Are they willing to run for
office?
Set up candidate training
sessions.
Fun
Last, but not least, Ken Nerrie had
it right when he said we should have
fun. While what we do is serious
business about trying to make sure
that our beloved Country stays with
the ideals and principles of our
Founding Fathers and our originating
documents, we should have fun doing
it. We are going to implement some
ideas about how we do that, as well.
I believe that since the RPLAC
headquarters is now in the Valley we
might be able to utilize that office
as we need to. I will check with
Chairman Forsch on that.
_________________________________________
At the May meeting we are going to
continue the discussion. We will
have some additional presentations
by members. We will take some
additional input from members, and I
expect that we will probably come
out of the May meeting with at least
three principle activities that we
think are priorities for SFVRC to
undertake to increase the
probability of Republican candidates
winning elections in the San
Fernando Valley, which is our
ultimate objective. |

SFVRC Business Roster |
|
Do Business with fellow
Republicans
In these tough economic times we
have decided to help each other out
economically.
We are preparing a business roster
of Republicans for SFVRC members.
This will be merged with a
county-wide business directory that
is being prepared by LA County
Republican Clubs.
We are encouraging all of our
members to patronize the businesses
of our fellow members and
Republicans. If you need goods and
services, why not have them provided
by your fellow Republicans?
For those of you who would like to
have your business listed in our
business directory, please send an
email to:
BUSINESS@SFVRC.ORG . Provide
your name, the name and street
address of your business, your
business phone number, your business
web site address, and your email
address. Also provide a description
of the services you provide or the
type of goods you sell.
We would like to publish this
directory by May, so please send in
your information. Send an email to
business@sfvrc.org with the
above information.

SFVRC Calendar of Events
|
|
New Active Calendar of Republican
and Club Events
We
have now set up a Google Calendar on
our club web site. The calendar is
regularly maintained and includes
not only events of SFVRC but many
other Republican events in the
area. Organizations wanting their
information included, please send
the info to me by email.
To access the calendar, go to
http://www.sfvrc.org and click
on "Calendar" on the menu, or go to:
http://www.sfvrc.org/calendar.html
The calendar is in monthly mode by
default, but you can click on "week"
to see the calendar by the week. If
you click on any event it will open
up and give you details. The
calendar can also be printed.
