Newt Gingrich praises CRP Platform
CRP Memo from CRP Chairman Ron Nehring

The California Republican Party held its semi-annual convention last week in San Francisco.  Much was accomplished at the convention, including the passage of a new platform.  Chairman Ron Nehring sent a memo to CRP members, which states, in part:

Newt Gingrich, the leader of the 1994 Republican revolution and former Speaker of the House, this week praised the California Republican Party for adopting a platform based on Republican principles and issues with proven "tri-partisan" appeal.

Gingrich's group American Solutions has spent the last year conducting extensive policy and public opinion research to identify issues rooted in Republican principles that also enjoy the support of a majority of Democrats and independent voters.  Their Platform of the American People is a compilation of this research.

In his update to more than 550,000 subscribers this week, Speaker Gingrich said the following:

The Doers, Not the Talkers: The Real Change Movement Surges Ahead of Campaign '08

The California GOP Adopts Key Provisions of the Platform of the American People

The next group of real change agents I want to tell you about is the California Republican Party.

I've talked to you in the past about the Platform of the American People, an agenda of solutions for America's challenges that have the majority support of Republicans, Democrats and independents.

Last week was a very successful week for the Platform. At their convention last month, the California Republican Party adopted key parts of the Platform of the American People into their state party platform.

Thank you to everyone who labored to develop the CRP's new platform.  A tremendous amount of work was contributed by leaders from throughout the state to ultimately produce a document that was adopted by the CRP membership without further amendment.

As with every deliberative process, not everyone's ideas made it into the final document.  Yet, our party is stronger and benefited greatly from the dialogue and debate in which everyone's voice was heard.

Again, special thanks to everyone who worked to produce and improve this document.  Click the link below to see the final platform.

The March meeting was a great success with over 125 attendees.  Candidates for Congress, State Senate and the State Assembly in the San Fernando Valley introduced themselves and stated their political positions to enable members to make informed decisions in June and to gather support for their campaigns.  Those candidates, and candidates for the County Central Committee were able to get signatures on their nominating petitions so they could qualify to run.

We also gave our club endorsement to Presidential Candidate John McCain.

I also want to let you know that I have been selected to write about Los Angeles County on the blog Red County.  So in addition to writing in my own blog, Bear to the Right (occasionally), I will also now be contributing to Red County.

I have been asked to participate on a panel discussing California politics at the annual convention of the California Chapter of the Republican Jewish Coalition in San Francisco, April 4-6, and I will participate in a panel discussion on Islamic Jihad at the Contra Costa Republican Party meeting on May 20th, along with Larry Greenfield and Lores Rizkalla.

We expect to have another exciting meeting of the San Fernando Valley Republican Club on Tuesday, April 1st.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely,

Gary Aminoff
